I've become a bit obsessed about the idea of getting my kids out for some cross country skiing. But not without good reason, the most obvious being that ticket prices for even a half-day of snowboarding or downhill skiing for all six of us just about requires us to refinance our home.
But the cost of cross country skiing?....Practically FREE!
It took some coaxing because in the minds of my kids, the idea of cross country skiing seemed lackluster compared to snowboarding. More physical exertion and less speed? No thanks.
So I road tripped it up to Great Brook XCountry Ski Park, which offers 10 acres + of scenic trails. I knew this would Wow them much more than skiing on our local golf course. It worked, they loved it!
The only curve ball was thrown on the way home, when Bobby filled his siblings in on the details of Biathlon. And the concept of being able to cross country ski with a straight bolt rifle? Well, that was met with unmatched enthusiasm by even my most die hard snowboarder.
